Conifer Realty Secures $8.8 Million in Funding for Port Jefferson Commons, Advancing Affordable Housing and Revitalization in Suffolk County

Long Island, NY, March 31, 2025 – Conifer Realty, a leader in high-quality, affordable housing development and management, is pleased to announce that its Port Jefferson Commons development in the Village of Port Jefferson, Suffolk County, has been awarded $2.0 million in Tax Credit Equity, and $6.8 million in subsidy funding as part of New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s (HCR) commitment to expanding affordable housing. This funding is part of a broader $270 million initiative aimed at creating and preserving 1,800 affordable housing units across New York State.

 

Port Jefferson Commons is a 53-unit transit-oriented, mixed-use workforce housing development located just one block from the Long Island Rail Road’s Port Jefferson Station. Recognized as a priority project by the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council, the development will feature modern, energy-efficient apartments, supportive housing units, and vibrant commercial storefronts. This project is a key component of the Village’s “Uptown” redevelopment plan, originally unveiled in 2016, further contributing to the revitalization and economic growth of the area.

This development will provide modern, energy-efficient residences designed to enhance the local housing market while supporting workforce stability and economic growth. By offering accessible housing opportunities, Port Jefferson Commons will contribute to a more vibrant and inclusive community, ensuring that individuals and families can live and work in the area without being priced out. Additionally, the project is expected to stimulate local businesses and improve the overall quality of life in the Village of Port Jefferson.
